[start quote]To anyone thinking of having a K6 telephone kiosk installed, think no further than Remember When. I’d trawled through the internet looking for suppliers and restorers of K6’s, but what attracted me to the Remember When site was that it seemed to have a genuine interest in what it was doing. I then visited Carl to have a look at his workshop and some of his K6’s both un-restored and full blown restored; it was my intention to have a rustic un-restored version, but when I saw the refurbished version I changed my mind on the spot. I told Carl him that I had a great spot for a K6, and asked if he sold them in a stripped down version, so that I could erect it on site, due to the difficulty that getting a complete K6 to the spot would present. Carl came and had a look at the site in my garden and said it would be possible to install a complete kiosk in one go. This was music to my ears, as I knew I wouldn’t be able to achieve the same build quality as Carl.

Carl sent me regular updates on the progress of the restoration work and produced a magnificently restored K6 complete with my ideal interior (an original 1970’s interior). On the day of the K6’s delivery I was a bit nervous, as I knew it would be a struggle to get the K6 down the garden and into the small wooded area at the back of the garden. The garden is a long narrow affair, and on the way there are obstacles like a low archway, uneven ground, impossibly narrow gaps, low branches and a large pond to negotiate; but just like Hannibal from the A-team, Carl had a plan!!

Carl’s team managed to raise the height of the archway, so that his truck could fit underneath it. This enabled him to reverse the trailer with the K6 on it down through a narrow gap, between some fruit trees, to the next obstacle which was another narrow gap with a mound on one side, and a pond edge on the other. The trailer wheels were placed with inch perfect precision through the gap, which only had inches to spare on either side of the trailer. Then the truck was taken as close as possible to the edge of the pond, as the extra distance this achieved was vital to ensure the next stage of the installation ran smoothly.

From here on it was down to muscle power. The K6 was lowered onto some large sheets of 18 mm thick plywood, and for the first time we got a sense of how it would look in its final resting home. It didn’t look that big when it was in a procumbent position on the trailer, in fact it looked a bit small, but when it was upright it looked amazing and was in perfect proportion with its surrounds. Carl’s crew lined up the boards through the trees, while Carl fitted one of his secret installation weapons (a set of dolly skids) to the kiosk. With a bit of effort and man handling the K6 was moved along to the next narrow gap that was on a bend, which had the added difficulty of a slight slope.

All the overhanging branches that were low enough to interfere with the kiosk were tied back where possible, but a few were too large to tie back or remove. These branches meant that the kiosk would have to be moved in a zigzag fashion to avoid them, but with the ever narrowing gap approaching, it was making it difficult to move, as there was hardly any room to move around the kiosk. This is where Carl’s second secret installation weapon was initiated; an electric winch.

As we were a reasonable distance down the garden we had to run two extra long extension leads to get some power to the winch. Large straps were placed around the base of the K6 and connected to the winch cable; the other end of the winch cable was placed round the base of a tree, which also had straps fitted to it to ensure it wasn’t damaged from the winch cable. The winch pulled the kiosk along slowly, and every now and then the cable was tied round a different tree to pull the K6 in a another direction to get it round the bend, and to avoid those overhanging branches.

Eventually the kiosk was on the concrete base – which in true Blue Peter fashion I had prepared earlier – and was looking stunning. Carl put the final touches to the K6, making sure that everything was intact and in complete working order. As I look at it now I think "how on earth did we get it there" it looks like it has always been there.
The K6 blends perfectly with its surrounds and has surpassed my expectations. I’d like to thank Carl and everyone at Remember When for not only producing a high quality refurbished K6, but for making a redundant spot in my garden the new focal point that leaves people speechless with surprise.

[start quote]“I decided to purchase my K6 with Carl the second I set foot in his Workshop!”

After contacting numerous companies regarding the purchase of a K6, it soon became apparent that I would buy mine through Remember When UK. After asking too many questions Carl still invited me to his Workshop to see his current projects. It was great to see various Telephone Boxes and other interesting items in different stages of their restoration.

Carl has a wide range of knowledge and skills regarding the restoration of these items, his dedication and quality of workmanship it to be commended.

From my first email to Carl through his website, he kept me up to date almost on a daily basis with pictures and interesting facts regarding my K6. Delivery day arrived and Carl was predictably punctual, he arrived with all the kit required to install my K6 and did so with accuracy and awareness of its surroundings.

Carl and his Team provided a First Class service that I will continue to use in the future. My K6 now sits pride of place in the front garden and is a talking point for all passersby.

A great service and now a great friend.[end quote]

[start quote]Like others we researched our purchase of a K6 with several different suppliers. Although price was not our priority, the quality of the workmanship was. Our initial impression was from visiting the Remember When website and how professionally the company was presented.

Our enquiry was met with enthusiasm and commitment, allocating and quoting on a kiosk that was quite unique. A programme to complete the restoration was also presented in the same professional manner. In less than a couple of days we chose to place our order and things were under way.

Your kind hospitality on our visit and tour of your premises, your commitment to total customer satisfaction, endorsed our thoughts that we had definitely made the right decision to buy from Remember When.

During the restoration, you kept us fully informed of progress, together with photos of the work, a brilliant first class record that will be treasured.

Completion of the kiosk photos were amazing, the gold leaf crowns, the fitment of the glass, the full Jubilee interior this was when the real "WOW" factor kicked in.

Both yours and Will's help with the early morning delivery on that special day was very much appreciated. What a fantastic piece of Hiab operation to place it precisely where the Kiosk was required, well done Will.

To sum up, thanks Carl for making this a very special transaction, the personal service you have provided, and your total commitment to ensure our complete satisfaction at every point during restoration and completion on what has been for us, a first class project.

We would have absolutely no problem in recommending you to any future clients.

Very best wishes to you all for the future, and thanks again. [end quote]

[start quote]We heard about the red telephones from an American in Alabama who happened to have an old British telephone booth in his yard. Little did we know, we would eventually be living in the land of all things red and wonderful! The phone booths, the mail boxes, all impressed us with their antiquity and charm. But, how does one transport a heavy item like that back to the USA, without having to mortgage their children? The secret is out! Our "reproduction aka fiberglass casting" is perfect for transporting and costs less that then real thing.

We needed our piece to be functional, so Carl made the Penfold mail box into a wine cabinet. We are the envy of the neighborhood! This piece is the favorite of our collection of antiques! It is a great conversation piece, to be sure.

We were pleased with Remember When UK because Carl worked with our ideas and was quite punctual about getting it ready. Carl, the owner is a charming man who spent time with us and helped us create this masterpiece![end quote]

[start quote]I would just like to say thank you so much for delivering our K6 safely. It was no easy job with our sloping drive and narrow access to the courtyard garden, but you proved it possible. It was great to meet you and talk to someone who is as 'nutty' as me over red telephone boxes! I have already recommended you to a friend who would like one and no doubt my son will be on the look out next year for a K6 to house his shower!

Once again thank you for the excellent service. [end quote]

[start quote]Having visited a number of suppliers to source a red telephone box, the moment I met Carl I realised that there could be no other place to go! His passion and his enthusiasm are irrepressible, and are reflected in the quality of his work and the standard of his service. It has been a joy to deal with Remember When – in every respect. The finished box is simply superb, the record of its renovation will be a treasure for years to come, and the delivery was both timely and painless.

If anyone anywhere wants a red telephone box, then this is the only place to come. In fact, I've ordered a second one... [end quote]

[start quote]Dear Carl, thank you for the safe delivery and erection of our K6 telephone box. It looks very impressive on our Holt station and sits well with our aim to portray a country village steam railway station and will eventually be a boon to passengers as well as an attractive feature to all visitors.

I must say thank you for the service you gave us from start to finish. Your help and advice was well beyond anything previously experienced without the usual sales patter but with a genuine interest in our requirements and a vast knowledge of your products.

Without exception my colleagues and myself consider you a new found friend and you will be most welcome to visit us at any time.[end quote]

[start quote]The quality of the workmanship of our restored telephone kiosk is
unsurpassed. We were extremely impressed by the overall standard of the service given from the initial contact with the firm to the delivery and installation of our Georgian kiosk. We received regular updates with photographs via email throughout the restoration process which all added to the excitement of receiving the finished product.

I can unhesitatingly recommend Remember When UK for the provision of a quality service with an end product of a very high standard.[end quote]

[start quote]From as soon as we put in our order for a restored K6 telephone kiosk, Carl was friendly, helpful and informative. Wherever there was a choice about the approach to be taken to its restoration, he offered it to us, guiding us through the options available, and at every stage he kept us up to date with photographs of the work in progress. The finished item has now arrived, delivered by Carl's equally amiable and helpful colleague Will, and we are wholly delighted with it. We had formed high expectations from the photographs, but the excellence of the restoration exceeds those expectations.

We have only the highest praise for Carl and his very professional work, and we would recommend him to anyone considering buying a red telephone box. [end quote]

[start quote]The K6 is a classic from a bygone era. It hails from a time where customer service was not a buzzword but a realistic expectation that one did not need to demand - it just appeared. Fortunately Remember When UK has actually "remembered when" (sic) such courtesies were commonplace and has continued this fine tradition. From the first pre-sales enquiry to the post-delivery follow-up, Remember When has been diligently providing timely updates and photographs of its expert restoration of a K6 that has been "uprooted" from Dear 'Ol Blighty and delivered to Finland much to the amusement and admiration of many locals! However, it has not been so easy to convince everyone that the phone box was installed in order to make cheaper phone calls back to the UK :)[end quote]

[start quote]After investigating several firms, and local salvage yards (whom many asked well over the odds) It soon became apparent that Carl offered a service that was unbeatable in terms of cost and also sheer friendliness! He was able to deliver & install a fully glazed unrestored K6 on the drive, with delivery from Kings Lynn to Derby at the same price a local salvage firm was able to do for an example in poor condition. The E-mail's just started to flow. It was soon evident that Carl was driven to restore these iconic items through true passion, and rightfully takes pride in the service he offered .I also recognised that underneath the professionalism, there is a superb sense of humour and nothing is too much trouble.

If you are planning on acquiring a K6, look no further![end quote]

[start quote]I would like to thank you for the excellent restoration of our Georgian Crowned 1935 Telephone Kiosk.  You have taught us a great deal about the differences in the types of Kiosks and we have had a wonderful time watching the restoration through the E-mail photo history you have created for us.  The care and attention you have taken to the details of our phone box show the pride and pleasure you take in each stage of the restoration.

Purchases of this kind are not made lightly.  We looked at several different companies and found that although, you were not the least expensive your personal interest in us and our wants and needs gave us the feeling that our box was top priority to you.  You gave us a time frame for the restoration and worked diligently to keep that time frame.  We are now certainly pleased by the extended personal attention you gave to each and every detail, to also include the delivery of our Kiosk to the shippers and the supervision of the crating, to ensure the packing is done to specification.  We are looking forward to creating the perfect atmosphere for our bit of British nostalgia in our home in Florida.[end quote]

[start quote]We purchased a 1955 restored K6 telephone box from Carl Burge at 'Remember When UK' and would thoroughly recommend his services. Carl is extremely personable and most helpful, nothing is too much trouble. He operates with traditional values where courtesy and customer care are foremost, sadly all too often forgotten nowadays. The boxes themselves are beautifully presented and ours looks better in situ than we ever imagined. Our little girl Megan (2 1/2 years) loves it too! A huge thanks also to Will Chipchase who delivered the box and skillfully placed it. Will has his technique with the Hiab developed to an artform and did a fine job. We would highly recommend 'Remember When UK' to anyone looking to buy a piece of nostalgia and are sure that we will use them again for other items.[end quote]

[start quote]For all my adult life I have wanted a telephone box in my garden!

I ordered my 1946 George VI K6 Jubilee interior telephone box from Remember When UK having first chosen it when it had recently been sandblasted and primed. It was important to me that the box should be as close to original as possible. Now that the box has been delivered, I am not disappointed. The restoration work by Carl has been first class. I cannot fault it. During restoration Carl gave me weekly updates on progress and Emailed through loads of digital photographs. Now I have a great portfolio of the Box from collection in its' original state to final resting place in my garden.

I have no hesitation in recommending Remember when to anyone who is looking for 1st class service and a superbly restored box.[end quote]

[start quote]I can confirm that we are delighted with the finished product as indeed we were with the entire service you offered throughout. The restored red telephone kiosk arrived on Saturday morning, as per our arrangement, and we fell in love with it the moment we saw it gleaming in the sunshine as Will took the truck down our drive. From our very first email and telephone contact in June to the delivery of our kiosk, the whole process from ordering, purchasing, paying to final delivery were flawless and extremely professional.  We particularly liked the fact that everything we discussed with you was backed up and confirmed by email and that you kept us informed of all stages of the restoration process.  It was brilliant to receive photos of the various refurbishment stages and it is nice to not only own such a lovely restored product but also to know a little about its history and the "before and after" look.

Will Chipchase is charming and we had a very long and interesting chat whilst he very carefully and expertly unloaded and installed our kiosk.  He put in the last glass pane which had to be taken out for delivery and left us with some extra paint in case any retouching up becomes necessary at some future point.

Thank you for everything.[end quote]

[start quote]Thank you for all of your help and advice, as you can well imagine, its very worrying purchasing something that I have very little knowledge about, you put no doubts in my mind that you run a first class business and that the K6 Phone box is just as you described, a fine example, thanks again, you're a real gentleman.[end quote]
